Monet in Watercolor?

I bought a Monet-inspired watercolor course this month because I wanted to stretch my painting style a little.

This one was definitely a challenge.

I used white gouache mixed with water and a few watercolor shades to make some of the paint more opaque. It was interesting learning different techniques for trying to recreate the feeling of Monet’s paintings in watercolor.

Honestly, this probably would have been much easier in oils or even acrylics, but you know I love a challenge. One of the things I love most about watercolor is how freeing it feels, even when it doesn’t behave exactly the way I planned.

I hated this painting at first, but it is slowly growing on me.

There are a few more paintings in the course that I want to try, although I think I may give myself a little breathing room before tackling the next one. Sometimes a painting needs time to settle before I can really see it.
