Patterns of Life
I spin in the spring, there is just something about the yearly patterns that have noticed that cycle through things in my life. It is that way with my crafts but also in activities. As far as crafting, I always enjoy sewing and quilting, and playing with my fabric.
Come springtime I just want to play in fiber. The fiber of fabric but also the fiber of life in the forms of gardens and in nature, but also in wool. It's as if my mind says it's shearing time and fresh fleece from across the lands are calling to you to come home with me.
This photo is the harvest of those summer days of spinning so far this year. I spun most of this up within a few weeks.
I enjoy the entire process. Speaking with the shepherds, learning about their flocks and picking that special one-of-a-kind fleece and getting it home, washing it, drying it, and sometimes dying right away and of course, spinning.
Spinning allows me more freedom from the craft room. I can take these portable electric spinners anywhere. I ever have power banks to be able to use them anywhere there is no electricity. I always like to have projects for the go, some stationary at home. My project bag this year has consisted of a knitting project from the handspun yarns I make.
Just as I enjoy quilting, there are phases of that I enjoy too. Sometimes I just want to clean the entire room, other times organize, sometimes I just enter to sort through my stash and write out plans of what I might do with them.
While I keep busy spinning and making yarns, it does start to fizzle out come fall when I want to snuggle back upstairs with my fabric again and thing about Christmas and what fun things I might make. And just when I figure out my pattern of life, I add something new to the mix. Oh oh!
