Jet dried SE2SE
I had carded and spun the yarn on the left just out of the box from the farm. The wool was cold washed prior but still had a lot of VM so I thought I would try to hot wash the fiber and soak it for a few hours and carded it again on my drum carder and it did card a bit easier and I feel as if it's not as rough but it still has a lot of VM that didn't card out.
I'm sure some of it will spin out. I have a good pound to pound and a half left that I may just roughly pull and weave into a rug for some color. It's not that dark in this photo, but it is very dark up close and in person. So this is Jet, a sheep from a New York farm and part of the Livestock Conservancy List. The Threatened list includes breeds with fewer than 1000 annual registrations and a global population of less than 5000. I can now mark this off my list of rare breeds, but I still don't know what I will make it. Do you want to know more about this breed? Visit the information sheet here.
