Freud Wool Washing
I absolutely am in love with the Shetland sheep, especially the ones from Donna up in Wisconsin. Her sheep are so soft and clean and fun to spin. This year she sent me the necks with the fleece on 2. They are not as clean as the coated fleece since as they eat the food I assume falls into their neck wool, but she said the softest wool is on the neck and wow it is so soft! I just love his creamy color too. This is my 2nd year buying the fleece of Freud. A favorite for sure!
The first photo is prior to washing, See how nice and cozy that fleece looks just raw as it is. The coats really do make a difference! I just use hot water of about 150 degrees with dawn dish soap and let it soak for a good 30 minutes, I then let the water out and refill it to let it soak another 30 minutes- 2 more times before the final rinse. Matching the temperature each time before I drain so that I don't disturb the fibers and felt them. The 2nd photo is after a wash. The last photo is of the neck fleece piece before I washed it, See how clean and soft it is on the inside left side sink, compared to the outer wool section on the right.
