SE2SE Dorset Horn Sheep Part 2
My Grandson came by this weekend and was interested in the yarn I had finished spinning. I had told him I was going to make Grampy a pair of socks but that I needed to dye it yet.
His eyes lit up and to an adventurous 7-year-old boy, messing with colors and water and dye could be dangerous but he was eager to experiment with me.
I have never tried low emersion dying yet and had a lot of dye mixed up already so I put some gloves on him and let him squirt it out. Look how awesome he did for his first dye. I didn't have but a few drops of yellow left and he really wanted to go blue.
We used a sky blue and a turquoise blue, some magenta, and a few splashes of sunshine yellow.
I just love the blues as they took the dye. He did a great job with my yarn!
After, there was a bit of dye left in the mix so as we were waiting he had run a bunch of locks through my drum carder, he even pulled it off the drum and helped me diz it into roving. We tossed that into the dye water and it soaked up the rest.
You can see the roving here took the leftover dye beautifully. I love to see how the different fibers grab the different colors at certain points. He is quite the artist!
Here is the yarn he carded and dyed. It spun up into a cute little 1-ounce skein. He wanted me to make him a scarf from it, but I don't think it will be quite enough. Maybe another time he is over we can have fun dying more.
